There are two main types of Morningstar solar charge controller:
1. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) solar controllers. These multi-stage controllers increase battery life and recover lost capacity in sulfated batteries. The Morningstar design reduces heating and stress on the electronic components.
2. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) solar controllers. Morningstar’s advanced maximum power point tracking technology, used in its MPPT controllers, will maximize the energy yield from the solar array and lower solar system costs.

The Tristar solar regulator is Morningstar's latest and most advanced solar regulator. It is a 3 function regulator that provides solar battery charging, load control or diversion regulation. Rated at either 45A or 60A with an operating voltage of 12, 24 or 48V. The controller has an optional meter, remote meter, and remote temperature sensor. The Tristar is also UL listed and also offers the following benefits:
