The Wren is designed, developed and manufactured in the UK from
proprietary items. None of the components are imported, have an
alternative use, or are adapted or modified from existing
‘off-the-shelf’ components. The turbines are designed
specifically for superior performance at lower wind speeds, and
are manufactured to high quality ensuring a quicker payback.
The Wren Micro-turbine is small direct drive
micro-turbine designed for use in many difficult and demanding
applications. Its
aesthetic low profile design, coupled with its unparalleled low
wind regime performance and low rotor acoustics make this
turbine the ideal choice – whatever your application – From
electric fencing to CO2 abatement or off-grid homes.
The Wren Micro-turbine has two modes of
operation. The unit may be used charge deep cycle battery
banks at 12 or 24 Volts DC, which can later be converted to
mains AC with use of an inverter or directly run low voltage
lighting. Alternatively the Wren Micro-turbine will soon be
available with a battery-less Micro Grid Tie inverter that
will allow the turbine to be linked directly to an AC ring
main without needing any battery storage. The power
generated will offset power that you would normally pull off
the grid. The Wren Micro-turbine can also work hand-in-hand
with Photovoltaic panels to ensure that power is being
generated in all weather conditions.

Extreme
Wren Extreme is a Wren Micro-turbine
variant with key component changes to make the unit perfect
for use in marine and industrial applications. Key component
upgrades include a new yaw pivot and bearing arrangement to
allow the turbine to cope with the large forces involved
with a pitching a rolling vessel on the open ocean. Other
upgrades include ingress protected slip-rings and anodised
bearing housings for protection against saltwater corrosion.
A new stator configuration with advanced cooling further
allows the turbine to run through 'big winds' without worry
of burn-outs or failure.

Wren
Mistral - 1KW
Mistral is our intermediate turbine with a
rotor diameter of 2.0 metres and is capable of generating up
to 1000watts of power. Mistrals high maximum power output is
complemented by our traditional outstanding low wind speed
performance. On a site with a good average wind speed
Mistral will provide significant amounts of energy. Mistral
is equipped with the same design features as our Wren
Micro-turbine range with the addition of tilt-rotor furling
systems for self protection during high winds and high
voltage power transmission that means smaller a cheaper
cabling can be used to transmit the power over long
distances from the turbine with less energy loss. The high
voltage power is then converted to low voltage DC power with
our Power Conditioning Unit so the turbine maybe used to
charge deep cycle battery banks or grid-tie inverters.
Excellent design, outstanding build quality and proven
reliability is included as standard.

Wren
Merlin 2.5KW - NOW AVAILABLE
Merlin is currently the largest turbine in
our product family with a rotor diameter of 3.5m and a
maximum power of over 2500watts. Merlin follows our proven
and successful design philosophy and low wind speeds
performance is key to this. On an installation site with a
good average wind speed and little turbulence, Merlin is
capable of providing most, if not all, of an average UK
households power requirement. In some cases it may be
appropriate to export any excess energy to the national grid
via an export meter. Our Merlin turbine is real value for
money and we are proud to bring a turbine of this
capability, quality and low cost to the market. Payback
times for this turbine are short, making micro-generation
using small wind turbines an incredibly attractive
proposition.

Wren
Guyed Tower Kit
The Wren Guyed Tower Kit is a cost
effective, user friendly mounting solution for your Wren
Micro-turbine. The tower kit can be installed in as little
as 1 hour by a single person and is capable of providing
tower heights of up to 7.5 metres. The kit components are
manufactured from heavy duty steel which is then powder
coated for corrosion protection. Helical earth anchors allow
easy fixing of the guy wire rigging which is all provided in
the kit. A length of scaffolding pole of 48.3mm steel
circular hollow section is needed to provide the main tower
section. The Wren Guyed Tower kit can be erected or lowered
in seconds giving easy access to the turbine.

Wren
Building Mount Kit
This mounting solution can be
used to mount the Wren Micro-turbine to an existing
structure or building. The mount kit is manufactured from
heavy-duty steel, industrial vibration isolation materials,
all of which are zinc plated and powder coated for excellent
resistance to weathering. The mount kit is designed for a
number of fixing options, and can withstand high wind
loadings on the Wren Micro-turbine. A main tower length of
up to 3 metres can be used by employing standard 48.3mm
diameter circular hollow section (not supplied)
Unsuitable for use with
friable mortar, sand lime mortar, aerated concrete blocks.

Mistral
Guyed Tower Kit
The Mistral Guyed Tower Kit is an
extremely user friendly and cost effective mounting solution
for our Mistral turbine. The kit provides all the structural
and hardware components required to get your Mistral up and
flying in no time at all. Minimal ground work is required to
complete the installation and the guy wires are fixed using
innovative helical earth anchors. The tower kit also uses a
large 89mm (3.5") steel section making the tower extremely
robust. The standard tower kit is available as 7.5 metres
high and an expansion pack is available to increase the
tower height to 12.5 metres. The structure is hot dip
galvanised and all fixing and rigging hardware is zinc
plated giving excellent corrosion resistance. The tower base
has a gin-pole provision so that a gin-pole may be added to
aid in the erection and lowering of the tower. The unique 3
guy wire configuration reduces the overall footprint of the
tower so less ground space is used.

30A
Shunt Charge Controller
Our 30 Amp Shunt Charge Controller is a
feature packed yet compact charge regulator for the Wren
Micro-turbine. The unit does not require dump loads as it
operates by using Pulse Width Modulation Shunt techniques to
prevent the battery bank from overcharging. The unit
features LED displays for both the battery state of charge
and the overall system status. Further features include a
automatic load disconnect and reconnect to prevent your
battery bank from becoming discharged too deeply. Rather
than regulating the battery charge based upon voltage
readings, the unit uses a unique control system which also
takes into account ambient temperature to calculate the
battery banks true state of charge. This helps ensure the
maximum working capacity and lifetime of your battery bank.
This unit is suitable for flooded lead acid or gel type
batteries.

| The Wren Micro-turbine will operate most efficiently
when it is mounted high above obstructions in free flowing
laminar airflow. Wren may also be roof mounted – But as with
any roof mounted wind turbine, performance may suffer due to
the inherent turbulence present at rooftop level.
In optimum conditions, with an average wind speed of just
12mph, a single Wren Micro-turbine could generate as much as
40KwH per month of free and clean renewable energy. That
represents a CO2 abatement of 18Kg’s per month.
If just 1000 Wren Micro turbines were in service, a
potential 216,000 Kg’s of CO2 emissions would be prevented
from reaching our atmosphere in a single year. Our larger
products, Mistral & Merlin, have exponentially greater power
capacity and will be able to make a significant or total
contribution to your power requirements. Please visit our
‘Products’ pages for more details.
As worldwide energy prices continue to increase, the
financial incentive to install a micro-generation system
will become very significant!
